How the Go City Stockholm Pass Works

The Go City Stockholm Pass is a digital pass, sold by the number of days, that you scan once at each attraction on its list; each pass day runs until midnight, whenever you first scanned. It is the pass sold for Stockholm today and covers admission to attractions in and around the city. This site does not sell the pass and earns nothing from it.

The Core Concept: One Digital Pass, Sold by the Day

The Go City Stockholm Pass is a digital pass in the Go City app. Instead of buying individual museum tickets and boat tickets, you scan the pass at each participating attraction.

  • Days, Not Credits The All-Inclusive Pass is sold by the number of days, and within those days you can visit as many of the included attractions as you like.
  • Once per Attraction Each included attraction can be visited once during the life of the pass.
  • Instant Digital Delivery There is nothing to collect; the pass lives in the Go City app.

The Activation Model: Consecutive Calendar Days

The pass runs on consecutive calendar days, not 24-hour windows.

  • First Scan Starts Day One Your first day begins when the first attraction scans your pass.
  • Midnight Reset Each day ends at midnight, whatever time you first scanned. A first scan in the late afternoon still uses a full day.
  • Strategic Usage To get the most out of each day you pay for, start with your first attraction early on your first sightseeing day.

Where the Included Sights Are

For a city-centre trip, the included sights you are most likely to use sit in a few districts close to each other:

  • Djurgården The museum island, home to several of the included museums and Skansen.
  • Gamla Stan (Old Town) The Royal Palace, Storkyrkan and the Nobel Prize Museum.
  • Norrmalm & City Center Where several of the included boat tours and sightseeing buses start.

THE RULES, IN GO CITY’S WORDS

Five things the pass does and does not do
from its FAQ
  • Calendar days
Our All-Inclusive Pass is valid for a full calendar day, not a 24-hour period.
  • Ends at midnight
each 'day' of your pass finishes at midnight. This is the case regardless of what time of day you choose to scan your first attraction.
  • Consecutive
The days of the All-Inclusive Pass, New York Pass, London Pass and Paris Pass are consecutive.
  • Once each
you can only visit each attraction once per life of your pass.
  • No public transport
While our passes don't include public transport, they do have a variety of tours and sightseeing buses to choose from.

What the Pass Includes in the City Centre

In the city centre the pass covers the main museums in Gamla Stan and on Djurgården, among them the Vasa Museum, the Royal Palace and Skansen, plus harbour boat tours and the hop-on hop-off bus and boat.

Flagship Downtown Museums and Cultural Landmarks

The pass covers admission to the main cultural sights in Gamla Stan and on Djurgården, among them:

  • Vasa Museum The 17th-century warship on Djurgården.
  • The Royal Palace The royal palace in the Old Town.
  • Skansen The open-air museum on Djurgården.
  • Nordic Museum (Nordiska museet) Swedish cultural history and everyday life.
  • The Viking Museum Viking history on Djurgården.
  • Storkyrkan and the Nobel Prize Museum Both in Gamla Stan; Storkyrkan is in the All-Inclusive Pass only.

Inner-Harbor and Canal Boat Tours

Stockholm is built on water, and boat sightseeing is one of the most useful parts of the pass. The included tours carry these names on Go City’s list:

  • Stockholm Highlights Boat Tour A longer tour of the city from the water.
  • Royal Djurgården Boat Tour A shorter tour around Djurgården.
  • Winter Boat Tour with Guide The tour on the list for the colder months.

Sightseeing Buses and Boats

The pass does not include public transport, but it does include sightseeing transport:

  • Stockholm Hop-On Hop-Off Bus and Boat Both are on the list of included attractions.

What the Pass Does Not Include

Public transport is not included: SL’s metro, buses, trams, commuter trains and ferries need separate SL tickets. Nor are sights that are missing from Go City’s list, however well known.

Regular Public Transportation (No SL Network Access)

The most common misunderstanding is about public transport. In Go City’s own words, “our passes don’t include public transport.”

  • Metro, Buses and Trams SL’s metro, buses, trams and commuter trains need SL tickets, bought separately.
  • Commuter Ferries SL’s public ferries are part of the same SL network and need an SL ticket.
  • Transit Alternative What the pass does cover is the sightseeing buses and boats on its list, which run their own routes.

Sights That Are Not on the List

Not every well-known name in the city is on the list. Before you count a sight towards the pass, check that it appears on Go City’s list of included attractions.

Trips Beyond the City Centre

This guide covers the city centre only. The pass list also includes some trips beyond it; we leave those out here and do not count them when deciding whether the pass pays off.

Who the Pass Pays Off For

The pass pays off if the admissions you would pay on its days add up to more than the pass: typically for travellers who fit several paid sights and a boat tour into each day, first-time visitors heading for the main landmarks, and anyone who would use the hop-on hop-off routes.

Venues added from the most expensive down, using each venue’s own adult price above; a venue with no published price for the season is left out. That many paid sights in one day is a lot; on a longer pass the price per day falls, so fewer a day are needed.

The High-Paced Explorer: Stacking Premier Sights and Boat Tours Daily

If you start early and aim to cover several major paid attractions a day, the All-Inclusive Pass can come out ahead. How many it takes depends on which sights and which season; the comparison further down uses each venue’s own adult price.

  • Stacking boat tours and top museums Put the most expensive entries—museums and a boat tour—on the same pass days.
  • Maximizing summer daylight On long summer days it is easier to fit more paid sights into each pass day.
  • One scan per entry Scanning one pass saves buying a separate ticket at every door.

First-Time Sightseers: Seamless Entry to Djurgården and Gamla Stan Hubs

First-time visitors heading for the main landmarks get convenience and a fixed sightseeing cost decided in advance.

  • Access to core landmarks Admission to the city’s best-known sights, including the Vasa Museum, the Royal Palace and Skansen.
  • Clustered sightseeing Many included sights are grouped on Djurgården and in Gamla Stan, so you can walk between them.
  • Room for curiosity With admissions already paid, it is easier to step into a smaller museum you might otherwise skip.

Sightseers Who Like the Hop-On Hop-Off Routes

The pass is also useful if you would rather get between the waterfront sights on sightseeing transport than on the regular network.

  • Land and water routes The included sightseeing bus and boat are an alternative to finding your own way between the waterfront sights.
  • Harbour crossings A sightseeing boat between the city centre, Skeppsholmen and Djurgården doubles as a short cruise.

Who Should Skip the Pass

Skip it if you plan one paid sight a day, spend your days on free viewpoints, parks and old streets, or get around mainly on SL, which the pass does not include. In these cases it costs more than paying at the door.

The Slow-Paced Traveler: Wandering Cafes, Boutiques, and Viewpoints at Leisure

If your idea of a good trip is slow mornings, fika and one paid sight a day, skip the pass.

  • The volume problem One museum a day rarely adds up to a day of the pass; see the comparison below for how many it takes.
  • Low-pressure itineraries If you visit a single museum like the Vasa Museum and spend the rest of the day outdoors, individual tickets cost less.
  • Unused value Paying by the day puts pressure on you to rush rather than enjoy the city at your own pace.

Walkers and Free-Sight Enthusiasts: Prioritizing Public Parks, Old Streets, and Free Sights

Many of Stockholm’s best experiences cost nothing. If your days centre on walking, the pass makes little sense.

  • Free viewpoints Monteliusvägen, Skinnarviksberget and Fjällgatan cost nothing to visit.
  • Open-air exploration The lanes of Gamla Stan, the waterfront on Skeppsholmen and the parkland on Djurgården have no entrance fee.
  • No entry required If your priority is architecture, squares and street life, an admission pass pays for things you will not use.

Heavy Users of Public Transit: Relying Solely on Standard SL Metro and Tram Networks

Because the pass does not include public transport, travellers who plan to get around on SL need to budget for SL tickets as well.

  • Paying twice for transport If you are buying SL tickets anyway, the sightseeing buses in the pass add little.
  • Coverage SL covers far more of the city than the sightseeing routes.
  • Bottom line If you prefer to get around like a local, individual museum tickets plus SL tickets can work out better.

What to Check Before You Buy

Check which sights and boat tours run on your dates, which attractions need a reservation, how to group sights that sit close together, and that your paid days run back to back from an early first scan.

  1. Seasonal Operation: Summer vs. Off-Season Schedules

What you can use changes with the season:

    • Boat tours The list includes both summer tours and a winter boat tour; check which are running on your dates.
    • Ticket prices change too The Vasa Museum and the Royal Palace charge more from May to September, which changes how much the pass saves.
    • Opening days Before you buy, confirm that the sights you plan to use are open on your dates.
  2. Reservations

The pass is digital, but some attractions have their own booking steps:

    • Reservations Some attractions require a reservation; the booking instructions are on each attraction’s page in the Go City app and on its website. A reservation must fall on a day your pass is valid.
    • Missed bookings A missed reservation may be counted as used, so cancel with the attraction if your plans change.
  3. Grouping Nearby Attractions

Crossing back and forth between islands eats into your pass days. Group your visits:

    • Djurgården The Vasa Museum, Skansen, the Viking Museum and the Nordic Museum are within walking distance of each other.
    • Gamla Stan and Norrmalm The Royal Palace, Storkyrkan and the Nobel Prize Museum, plus the boat tours from the city centre.
    • Skeppsholmen A harbour stroll that pairs with a boat tour.
  4. The Consecutive Days Strategy: Batching Heavy Museum Days

The All-Inclusive Pass runs on consecutive calendar days:

    • Start early on day one A first scan late in the afternoon still uses a whole day.
    • Stack high-cost sites Put your paid entries and boat tours on back-to-back pass days, and keep days without the pass for parks, streets and cafés.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Stockholm City Pass

Does the pass cover the Tunnelbana subway and city buses?

No. Go City states that its passes do not include public transport. The pass covers the sightseeing buses and boats on its list; for the metro, buses, trams and SL ferries you need SL tickets, bought separately.

Can I visit the same attraction multiple times with one pass?

No. Go City’s rule is that you can visit each attraction once during the life of your pass.

Do I need to reserve in advance?

Some attractions require a reservation and some do not. Each attraction’s page in the Go City app and on its website says which, under “Know before you go”. Any reservation has to fall on a day your pass is valid.

How does consecutive day activation work if I start late in the day?

Each day of the pass runs until midnight, no matter when you first scanned. If your first attraction is in the late afternoon, that still counts as your full first day, and the following days follow on consecutively. Go City explains the rule in its FAQ.
